Help with 20 year old son who has made a 180* in his life?
My son is currently in college, was a great student, plays football, & works PT. He recently met a 16 year old girl and since has lost ALL focus and has left our home to live with her and her dysfunctional family. (He has known her since Oct )
Side bar….in the beginning stages of this relationship she would spend all her free time in my home; she told me about her family and all the dysfunction around them. I remained cordial and pleasant but at the same time was so concerned about my son! His grades have suffered, he dropped a class so he wouldnt recieve a failing grade and has decided not to spring train & not play football this fall.
We sat down with him to express our feelings about his grades, lack of interest in football going forward and his choice of possibly disturbed young lady….he responded with leaving in the middle of the night with her….leaving all his ‘stuff’ behind.
Like I mentioned earlier he is at her home with her family….ugh…
Help…!
Wow.. um, really. Ugh.
Well, what kind of girl is she? Even if she’s from a dysfunctional family, she.. can be a good.. girl.. huh. Although she’s still fairly young…
But he’s acting like a child, too, by leaving in the middle of the night. As a parent, I know it’s going to be difficult, but I think that you should just leave him alone. He’s an adult, yes, so even if his decisions are wrong or totally off, it’s still his decision, and he’ll have to suffer the consequences. Hopefully, he will realize that him being with her is seriously damaging his life at this moment. (And even he does realize, that doesn’t always mean that he’ll care about it….)
Hopefully, though, it’s just a faze. Is he serious about her?
