Real Estate Agent?
Currently, I work for a real estate management company. As a leasing consultant, I am on salary and comission with health and dental benefits. My company is paying for me to take the real estate agent course and licensing test in MA. How difficult is the switch from a salaried job to a comission job. Do any real esate agencies offer health insurance plans? How do agents pay for taxes if their annual income my vary? Is it similar to claiming tips as a waitstaff at a restaurant? It seems like something I would love to do, though it seems risky not knowing if your take home pay would be enough to cover the basic bills, etc. Any advice would be welcomed! Oh, one more question: How easy is it to transfer a license to a different state if I get licensed in MA and move to CT, NH, CA, GA, etc?
As a REALTOR you are self employed and would be paid on a 1099 instead of a W-2. No taxes would be taken and you would be responsible for everything including health insurance, etc… If you are licensened in one state and want to transfer to another you would need to contact the state you want to go to Board of Realtors to see the requirements and if testing in that state would be required. My advise would be keep the leasing consultant job full time and do the real estate part time. You would have excellent leads from the inquiries for rentals and it would give you the security of a regular pay until you establish yourself and are comfortable with the REALTOR role. Good Luck! I hope this helps
