General cost of living, Traffic – April 1, 2009

Cost of Living Charts International

Cost of International Classifications of life are the result of comparing the cost of an expatriate personal budget using local prices of the same amount all the same goods and services in each country around the world.

Our results show that the integrated impact of multiple world economic trends that affect every country in one way or another, contribute to rapid changes in the substantial cost of living in the country in the world. Changes in the cost of living is important and has occurred in a relatively short period of time. The reason for this is that economic crises occur both at the same time. 2008 saw the bursting of the housing bubble followed by the fact that some number of the global asset management funds, insurance and banking giant. Some were liquidated or absorbed, others rescued with public funds. In 2009, we saw the constant decline in home prices that many still believe their lowest level. Stock prices and market indexes are at levels last a decade or more. The trend of inflation has declined and interest rates still markets of developed countries and developing countries. We are also aware of the exchange rate volatility with a number of major economies to see their currencies weakened considerably in the last year. The economic impact continues to spread worldwide. Today we are witnessing a true global recession reduced demand for manufacturing inputs and outputs and the demand for energy and losses Employment significant scale.

This study of 276 world sites all over the world. The study includes the cost of several hundred points that expatriates are spend their salary, divided into groups of Basket 13. The results of April 1, 2009 were compared with the previous results of 01 December 2008. The index uses New York as base (New York = 100). An index above 100 means the cost of living is higher in New York, an index below 100 means that the cost of living is lower in New York.

Geneva has a cost of living 110 for example. This means that on average goods and services they are $ 100 in New York, a cost of $ 110 to Geneva. Each city is ranked according to their overall cost of living including the cost of the basket of all groups.

A cost of living increases or decreases based index in the price of local goods and services used in the study and the current exchange rate. Usually, a country with a currency that has risen relative to other currencies (currency stronger) and has relatively high local inflation (fast / strong price increases), the experience is usually higher cost of living compared to other countries. On the other hand, a country with a currency that has fallen against the currencies of other (weak currency) and has relatively low local inflation in general, experience a decline in the cost of living compared to other countries. There is important to note that we are talking about changes. Advantage in London as another example. In December 2008, London has ranked the sixth most expensive place in the world for expatriates to live. In April 2009, is the 23rd most expensive place in the world for expatriates. This does not mean that the local cost of living for expatriates living in London, declined. What this means is that, compared with other places in the world, London is more expensive than last year. What makes the cost of living in London relatively lower than it was due mainly to increased cost of living elsewhere less Pound.

These changes have an impact on expatriate employees important. An expatriate working in a high cost of living – the countries with strong currencies, such as Hong Kong, which is pegged to the U.S. Hong Kong illustrates this point. The high cost of living, it is difficult to burn due to high local prices, the home (including housing services) and in particular is very expensive. However, an expatriate who works in Hong Kong is now likely to send money home gives you the power to spend much larger home. In the last year, the Hong Kong dollar has risen 15% over the Malaysian ringgit, and 30% against the Indonesian rupiah and the dollar Australia.
