Who is oppressed? Nuns or Muslimahs?
1. Nuns wear the veil through out the day even though they sleep, eat or sitting with other Nuns. We Muslim women wear Hijab (lose dressing covering arms and legs too except face, hair, hands and feet) at home and among girls and wear veil (head covering) outside the home only. Covering face is optional though.
2. Nuns can’t marry and have children but we Muslimahs marry and have family.
3. Nuns can’t work outside the church for living. We Muslimahs can do jobs if we maintain our Hijaab i.e. wearing Islamic dress and doing those jobs which do not have mixing of both genders. Islam believes in segregation of genders. Still, we are free from financial obligation.
4. Nuns can’t get education in secular subject while in Islam, seeking knowledge is an obligation on both men and women.
5. Nuns don’t inherit/own property. We Muslimahs own and inherit property of our relatives.
So, how could you say Muslim women are oppressed?
You had made your point.
To me both are not oppresssed, only that the nuns are lesser fortunate.
On the other hand, those women not sufficiently covered, are object of exploitation by others, even though they might not realised it or not feel oppressed by it.
